An overview of the City of Hobsons Bay
Hobsons Bay City is located in Melbourne’s south-western suburbs which includes the suburbs of Altona, Altona Meadows, Altona North, Brooklyn (part), Laverton (part), Newport, Seabrook, Seaholme, Spotswood, South Kingsville, Williamstown and Williamstown North. More than 97,500 people live in this diverse community where local talent is nurtured, differences are celebrated and expression is encouraged.
As at 2019, a snapshot of the Hobsons Bay community:
15% of residents are children aged between zero and 11 years
15% of residents are young people aged 12 to 15 years
26% of residents are aged 55 years or more
51% of residents are female.
The City of Hobsons Bay is characterised by diversity, including its diversity of population, culture, educational and ethnic backgrounds, with 30% of people born overseas, over 100 languages other than English spoken at home and 80 different faiths observed.

The City of Hobsons Bay has varying levels of prosperity. Some areas of the west have high levels of income and employment, and others have complex challenges that impact people’s opportunity and choice.
